How to Apply Tape In Hair Extensions
Step 1: Start with clean, dry, styled hair. You’ll want to make sure that your hair is free of any oils or product build-up before applying the extensions.
Step 2: Begin by dividing your hair into small sections using small elastic hair ties. These sections will act as guideposts for placing the extensions. Make sure that each section is no wider than the weft itself. If you have very thin or fine hair, you may want to consider backcombing each section before moving on to Step 3. This will help the extensions adhere better and stay put for longer.
Step 3: Once you’ve divided your hair into sections, take a moment to untangle each one thoroughly with a wide-tooth comb. This will prevent any snags or tangles when you’re applying the wefts later on.
Step 4: Starting at the nape of your neck, take a small section of hair and hold it away from your head. Take one extension weft and place it horizontally along the natural part of this section, making sure that the bonding agent on the weft is facing downwards towards your head. Be careful not to get any adhesive on the rest of your natural hair!
Step 5: Now take a second extension weft and place it directly underneath the first weft, aligning the two wefts so that they are flush against each other. Again, make sure that the bonding agent is facing downwards towards your head—not upwards towards the sky!
Step 6: Once you have both wefts in place, use a comb to smooth down the section of hair and lightly press both wefts together so that they bond properly. Then use a hairdryer set on low heat to seal the bond (make sure not to hold the dryer too close to your head—you don’t want to damage your extensions or natural hair). Repeat this process until all sections of your head have been completed. And voila! You’re done!
